Anderson's sophisticated etchings are intriguing and compelling. She anchors her work in intense and focused drawing which engages with the traditions of medical and natural history illustration, but employs them in a new contemporary way. Through research, intuition and observation Anderson explores the anatomical relationships and shared systems between plants, animals, objects and humans. In a series of portraits of friends she depicts not just the sitters’ outer appearance but their inner organs. Her nature drawings and portraits from Japan bring together the patterned minutiae of nature and the equally intricate and particular details of the human subject. Her works are accurately observed, yet intimate; beautiful and jewel-like, yet visceral.
Anderson graduated from the RCA, London in 2007. Since then, she has exhibited her work internationally and completed a series of artist’s residencies. She was selected for a Wellcome Trust Arts Award in 2009.
