Claas Gutsche
Claas Gutsche’s work focuses on subjects where suburbia meets the natural landscape. The artist is concerned with the human living space as an alien, unsafe space, where what is behind the curtain of an ideal world can sometimes be more threatening than the world outside. Gutsche’s work shows an interest in narrative, in subversive views of beauty in landscape, and expresses a sense of unease and uncertainty about and within a place. We are made aware of the contradiction between the beauty of some surroundings and the realities of their past. Gutsche’s spaces are places of tension, where suggestions of darkness lie just below the surface.
