Robert Walden

Ontology is defined as “that department of metaphysics which relates to the study of the being or essence of things, or to being in the abstract.” Walden's work draws on these concepts to examine time, space and identity in his 'ontological road maps.' Walden’s elegant maps begin with the order and structure of a New World grid city and gradually build outwards into the convoluted confusion of contemporary urban sprawl, but they never coalesce into a particular place. Instead, they act as abstract metaphors for the world while also physically tracing the artist’s hand along painstakingly-produced lines of communication.
