Bahareh Khomeiry
Bahareh Khomeiry is a ceramicist whose work explores themes of identity, culture, freedom, and transformation, through clay. With a background in architecture, her engagement with ceramics began through tilemaking, inspired by the motifs of traditional Persian tile art from her home country, Iran.
She went on to study ceramics at both BA and MA level, graduating in 2024 with an MA in Ceramics from the University for the Creative Arts (UCA).
Khomeiry's 'Hair as Freedom' series of stoneware vases are created using individually plaited strips of clay which are gradually built up in layers, in tribute to the 'Women, Life, Freedom' movement in Iran, where women cut their hair in protest as an act of liberation against oppression.
Bahareh was recently awarded the Fresh Talent Prize at the British Ceramics Biennial 2025, and is currently Potter in Residence at Watts Gallery in Guildford, where she teaches ceramics classes alongside her own studio practice.
