In 2025, Michael Azgour was commissioned by Twr Y Felin Hotel in St Davids, Wales to create a series of paintings exploring the life and history of the area in his characteristic abstract style, to be hung in the reception area of the hotel.

Michael Azgour's practice explores the relationship between modern observational and landscape painting, and the digital image, creating a surface that at once seems pixel-like and fluid. Figures are repeated and distorted, as if the scene has glitched and frozen, with static blocks of colour and sweeping brushstrokes adding to this effect.

Despite being the smallest city in the UK by population, St Davids has a long history dating back to the 6th century, and wealth of wildlife. Across its landscape, you can find iron age forts, neolithic burial chambers, the remains of ancient monuments, and historical landmarks, like St Non's Chapel and Well. The area is also rich in wildflowers and heathland plants, and thousands of birds, including peregrines, kestrels, and gannets call it home.

Inspired by the landscape of the area, specifically the coast of Whitesands Bay and the swimmers, surfers, and sailers that enjoy its waters, Azgour's paintings consist of various scenes split across the canvas, evoking the energy and historical landscape of St Davids within each piece.
Azgour also took inspiration from the photography from the ‘Pebidiog' book trilogy, created by photographer Marcus Oleniuk and academic and poet Mererid Hopwood, which documents the life and history of St David’s Peninsula.
