Dan Faine

Dan Faine is an artist, printmaker and co-founder of Dark Matter Studio, a boutique print studio based in London. Dan's work is characterised by a playful exploration in taking things out of context. Objects, isolated from their backgrounds, are captured in perspective, giving them a surreal and cartoon-like quality as they hang, suspended off the wall, or within their frames. The colours and compositions of famous paintings are transcribed onto the simplified shapes, resulting in incongruous items which fall somewhere between a relief and a conventional two-dimensional image. Familiar and at the same time confusing, they pay homage to their original counterparts while examining to what extent these can be abstracted and yet remain identifiable.
