Guy Gee
London-based artist, Guy Gee explores the merging boundaries between graphic design and contemporary art. A short spell at art school fuelled Gee’s interest in interior design and sparked a curiosity in the visual and tangible point where high art meets low. It is the exploration of this crossover within contemporary art that appears as a principal theme throughout his work. In his Terence Stamp series, Guy Gee successfully melds the world of postage stamps with that of printing to create groundbreaking, innovative and fresh compositions that are aesthetically charming. Each intricately detailed artwork reminds us of places we've been or would like to go to.
Gee spends hours searching for each stamp, often going through thousands before finding the one that will fit into the rest of the collection. The 100-year-old miniature hand engraved artwork is then enlarged and digitally revised by Gee, creating a fresh contemporary take on the original. The stamp is then printed on 400gsm G. F. Smith card, cut out, and finished by hand.
