Pamela Stretton
Stretton's artwork focuses on the female body. Issues such as beauty ideals and the body's relationship with popular culture, fashion, health and food are central to her themes.
Montage-like compositions take the form of pixilated inkjet prints which are slowly built up from information in the form of iconography drawn from food, fashion and other similar consumer-driven industries, encoding the entire image in a specific context.
To create the complete picture, flesh coloured tones are selected by careful manipulation, sorting and placement. This formation creates a broken down impaired abstract quality on close inspection with the reverse effect if viewed from a distance.
